Questions & Answers of Third Google Webmaster Chat

It was a pity that I missed the chance to listen to Googlers and other webmasters during the third Google Webmaster Chat event, Tricks and Treats in Oct 22, 2008 (midnight in Vietnam).

Most Questions & Answers can be found at Google Moderator. But for convenience, I copy some Q&As here, thanks to PageTrafficBlog (you’ve got a new customer today, from Vietnam :-)). Also, you can find more feedbacks from other webmasters about this third Webmaster Chat event.

Q. “Since Google is against using ranking software (ie:WebCeO) to monitor SERP rankings, is there any plans on Google creating an approved, in-house rank check application that webmasters can use?”

Matt Cutts: It’s something that we’ve talked about. My concern is that sometimes people get too worried with paying attention to their “trophy phrase” and want to rank for that even if that’s not the best phrase for them, or concentrating on one phrase to the exclusion of all the other stuff they rank for isn’t the best idea. I think paying attention to server logs or analytics data gets you a really nice array of keywords that are practical to work on. But this is feedback that we’ve heard, and personally I think it would be nice if we offered this for some reasonable size of keywords.

Yahoo! to cut 3500 jobs?

Yahoo! is spending hard days. Really hard. Maybe the hardest in its history.

Yahoo! Profiles, New Social Networking Site

I had another new Yahoo! home, in Beta, at Yahoo! Profiles, yesterday, importing data from Yahoo! 360.

My Profile at Yahoo! Profiles

Abandoning Yahoo! 360 and Mash, now Yahoo! builds a new social network. Globally.

“Our plan is to integrate “social” as a central dimension into the services you use every day. For example, if you’re on Yahoo! Messenger 9.0, you’re already seeing Yahoo! Buzz, Mybloglog, and Twitter updates as part of your friends’ status messages.” (Jim Stoneham, Vice President, Communities).

But integration is coming soon next upgrade, not now.

Vietnam journalists face prison for coverage of graft scandal

I like the writing style of foreign press (though very often I don’t understand all words/phrases). And this post below is copied from Yahoo! News.

HANOI (AFP) - Two Vietnamese journalists faced jail terms on Wednesday on charges of “abusing democratic freedoms” in their reporting on a major corruption scandal in the communist country.

The two reporters are on trial along with police officers accused of leaking them information about the 2005 case, in which state officials pilfered foreign aid funds, much of it to gamble on football.
